Radiation Oncologist in Lafayette, LA
Dr. Russo specializes in the treatment of cancer using radiation therapy (high energy focused x-rays). He is a native of Lafayette, Louisiana and a graduate of LSU Medical School in Shreveport, Louisiana. He completed a 1 year Internship in Internal Medicine in Shreveport, Louisiana followed by a 4 year Radiation Oncology Residency and Chief Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Dr. Russo is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology (DABR) and member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). He has practiced in Acadiana, North Dakota and Ochsner Baton Rouge before moving back to Lafayette with his family. Dr. Russo specializes in cancer of prostate, breast, bladder, bones, lung, esophagus, pancreas, liver and bile ducts, rectum, gynecologic, lymphoma, skin, anus, brain, head and neck (throat, mouth, tonsils) and others. He has previously been Medical Director, Director of Clinical Research and Chairman of the Committee on Cancer. He has mentored several medical students and residents and was teacher of the year in North Dakota. He has published numerous peer reviewed journal articles, textbook chapters and national meeting presentations on cancers of the prostate, esophagus, head and neck, lung and cervix. He uses a variety of modern radiation techniques including Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS). Dr. Russo enjoys spending time with his wife Crystal and children Rylan and Noah. He also enjoys guitar, relaxing, hiking, reading, binge watching Netflix and cooking.
