The Procedure

The procedure is about 20-30 minutes and is done in the following steps:

1. The testicles are shaved and cleaned with an antiseptic
2. Some men are given medicine to reduce anxiety or to induce drowsiness
3. The doctor detects the vas deferens by touch
4. Local anesthetic is injected
5. The doctor will make small openings in the scrotum and cut the vas deferens. The vas deferens end is then tied, stitched or sealed
6. The vas deferens is then replaced and the scrotum is closed with stitches

After the procedure, the body continues to produce sperm that are absorbed into the bloodstream. Because the body continues to produce sperm, vasectomies are considered to be reversible.

What is a Vasectomy Reversal?

A reversal vasectomy, also known as Vasovasostomy, is generally considered when there has been the loss of a child, a remarriage, and a change in financial conditions or in certain situations, to treat testicular pain.

It is a micro-surgical procedure that is complicated and doesn’t always restore fertility. Like a vasectomy, it is a procedure that should be thoroughly considered before having it done. Vasectomy reversal is usually an outpatient procedure (without an overnight stay in the hospital).
