Infertility: Problems With Fallopian Tubes
Overview
Problems with the fallopian tubes are a leading cause of infertility in women. Tubal blockage may be caused by:
- Past infection. This is most often a sexually transmitted infection. Sometimes it can be linked with a ruptured appendix.
- Tubal ligation or other types of surgery.
- Endometriosis. This is a common cause of infertility.
- Scarring of fallopian tubes linked with past pelvic surgery. This might have been surgery for ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids.
